2τοῦ τε ζημίαν μεγάλην ἐνεγκεῖν δύνασθαι,
3καὶ φίλοις σπουδαίοις δυστυχοῦσι βοηθεῖν
4πρὸς δὲ τὸν ἄλλον βίον μηδὲν ὑπερβαλλόντως,
5ἀλλὰ μετρίως αὐτὴν ἀγάπα.

1Prize the substance you have for two reasons,
2that you may have the means to bear a heavy loss
3and that you may aid worthy friends when they are in distress;
4but for your life in general, cherish your possessions not in excess,
