Voice of Hartophnachthes, son of Snebonychos, before the carrier-of-Ra
Eschnompmetis. Oh may Pre cause his lifetime to be long!
Espmetis, the mḏre, has brought me three letters,
(among them) a letter for Pa-ir-dit, son of Bereh. He has brought two (letters) for me.
I have read them. I have heard all matters about which you have sent.
You have sent concerning those who are elected as wab priests, in order to write
in the temple Reading variant Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993): „… um (sie) im Tempel (ein)zuschreiben.“. That with which you are satisfied
together with the wab priests holding office:
I am satisfied with it (also). You have sent: “Look,
they have billed it(?). Send to the wab priests according to the
mentioned matters! Reading variant Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993): „man hat abgerechnet.‘ Schreib (auch) an die Priester die nämlichen Worte!“ Stop(?) considering it as your matter According to Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993). Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae reads here „?“.
only Cf. Den Brinker / Muhs / Vleeming, DBL (2005), 52., because it is a matter
of the four phyles!’ But Pa-hetnetjer,
son of Eschnompmetis, is a wise man.
He is a man able to conduct the investigation of a matter,
without causing irritation(?) among the wab priests and
the god himself. I have agreed with him. The god
has agreed with him, too. But I do not know, who
is selected in the heart of the wab priests. The men
who are here will be wary of doing something
which is not suitable. But if
you send concerning something to this effect, Comment in Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae: (eigentl. "geschrieben habt" = "geschrieben haben werdet").
one may order not to allow to raise a plea (against)
allowing him to investigate in the temple, in the town (and) in (every) place
on earth. And one may order to give him
the books whom he desires to carry out
the investigation of the failed matters.
Matters from which the god benefits
are they. When you have sent
to me According to Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993). concerning Osoroeris:
‘You have quarrelled with him’ by sending to {me} him :
‘You beware of nobody’,
I would rather have said (to) Osoroeris:
‘Be aware of the god!’ This (would be the case) not
to hurt him. But because I
was aware of him, it was appropriate
to be aware of me, too. Concerning that you have sent to me:
‘Nobody is doing something for which he can be seized.’
I am aware that
there was something which you are used
to saying and which I do not know.
But the people who hate (me)
are those who say them. I am not
in Elephantine today, neither in my name
nor in the name of Osoroeris According to Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae. Reading variant by Den Brinker / Muhs / Vleeming, DBL (2005), 52: „my name is not | the name of Osoroeris“., son of Teos.
The people saying the slander(?) do not remain hidden (from me).
Those who reveal things which are worth doing
for me: They are with Osoroeris. I have taken
my 2 (artabas) wheat and the 2 (artabas) barley into his house.
They are at his expense. Provide me as a reward(?)
a favour, because he writes in the temple.
He attacks me and them with obloquy,
and he brings a disturbance(?) Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae gives here only „?“, Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993) translates “Unwetter(?)”. to the house
of Espneti-hetnetjer and of Chnemeus(?) . According to Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae. Reading variant Zauzich, P. Berl. Eleph. 2 (1993): „Chnoum-em-hapi“.
The things which I have not said will disgrace my name.
He(?) will repay(?) (it), the god, to cause to take away
his assets, too. I did not agreewith him
in written form(?), [_] the wab priests formerly (not), too.
