To Teos, son of Pachnoumis. [_]
Thus Maseratef, the priest of Sokar, has sent to Teos, the priest of Chons:
‘There are some people, who are omitted from the census lists
of the district of Elephantine in the 5th regnal year.’ He has spoken with the high priest.
He is uttermost persistent in this case, while everybody (else)
is on the festival of Mut at the 8th of Payni [_]. He has commanded Peteminis, son of Sisiois:
‘Teos should add them to the list before you are even with
his scribe!’ I have spoken to him: ‘My scribe has not yet come to the south!’
He has sent to Maseratef not to be even with Hakes
and Psenyris, your scribe, before they have added the said persons to
the list. I send you their list below.
He has sent to the [///] again to cause you to give their money
doubled, [///] will cause you to take note of the following:
‘Everything displeasing(?) used to be found
in the field of [Elephantine]!’ [_] Furthermore, concerning the affairs
of the measurement receipt from which you have subtracted 230 (artabas) of wheat,
brought by Patous, son of Poeris, who came before
Mnesarchos (and) Teos, the priests of Khonsu, when
they came hither, and when Demetrios was caused to take aroyal oath
concerning them, and when I was caused to sign them, and when I objected to them:
They are too numerous to send about them. [_] Mnesarchos has spoken:
‘It is the scribe who is entitled to commit an oath to him.’
I have not found anything on this. I was caused to sign the royal oath
concerning the grain, in which the 230 (artabas) wheat are included. Thus has said to me Patous,
son of Poeris: ‘There was an agreement with me and Teos, son of Pachnoumis.
If I do not incriminate them therein, I will be liable(?).’ [_] It may happen
that you cause to bring to me a papyrus containing the measurement receipt
including the 230 (artabas) of wheat, and that you cause a receipt to be issued (for it)!
If there is something on it which the people had given to Patous, son of Poeris,
he should be caused to give it (back). [_] But if you
object to them, send to me immediately in order that it happens that
Demeterios, the tax collector, can bring it to Syene
with him. I will cause him to speak with you about it, because
the mentioned grain is part of the receipt which
one caused the strategos to give him until the 30th of Payni. Written by Teos in
the 5th regnal year, 9th of Payni. [_]
The census lists which are reduced in the money disposal from the 5th regnal year:
The salt tax: 149 men: Yields 4 deben, 9⅔ kite.
200 and 4 women: [_] Yields 2 deben, 5½ kite. [_] Yields 7 deben, 5⅙ kite.
The liturgy tax: [_] 74 men: [_] Yields 7 deben, {3} SPITZKLAMMER 4 SPITZKLAMMER kite.
The cloth tax: [_] 77 women: Yields 1 deben, 7 ⅔ 1/22 kite, ½ ¼ obols.
Yields (total): 16 deben, 5 5/6 1/22 kite, ½ ¼ obols.
