Summary Fragments from a Vita of Pachomius. Denoted "Codex S20" by the editor of the Vitae Pachomii and this particular text, Lefort. He says that the closest parallel to this text can be found in the Arabic version only (Amelinaeu, Annales du Musee Guimet, XVII, Paris 1889).

4A great ascetic brother visited (dwellt by?)
5them, he belonged to the community
6of our father Pachomius and was appointed to the
7service of the brothers, and his name
8was Apa Pecosh. There was a wonder
9in his whole behaviour
10and his prayers, he prayed namely
11day and night. When the
12little boy saw him,
13the thought immediately
14occupied his mind (lit.his heart) (...)

6When our father Pachomius
7learnt that Theodoros cried
8many times due to this thing,

10met him, he would tell him:
11"Struggle, my son, and get
12yourself the true knowledge. He
13called him afterwards when
14the moon shone,
15and said: "Raise your eyes, my son,
16and see that light-maker
17because it shines on the whole earth
