Translation

1 | | In the name of God, the kind, the
Merciful |
2 | | Let there be taken with God’s blessing
and help eggshell |
3 | | which should then be washed
and well ground; there should also be ground |
4 | | half its weight of salt and put into a crucible; the whole |
5 | | should then be covered, and set on a fierce fire; it
should be taken out |
6 | | when it is cold. It will
then be found to be black and should be returned |
7 | | to the first operation a second time and again taken out. |
8 | | When it will be found to be ashen, when the operation
should be repeated for a third time|
9 | | and when
taken out it will be found to be white, and the treatment of it will be
concluded|
10 | | After this the specimens of
mercury should be taken|
11 | | To every four dirhams
should be added a nuqra drachm of filings|
12 | | of the
stone prepared in the first part of the operation and the mixture should be
converted into an amalgam on a flat stone by pounding it up|
13 | | well and grinding it above and below|
14 | | So that the union of the constituents may be firm. It
should remain for a night in a fire of hot ashes|
15 | | and be taken out in the morning when you will find it a brittle stone|
16 | | Five dirhams are to be projected upon ten of
the metal to be transmuted. And peace
