Summary

Contract of loan. Aurelius Iakob, son of Konstantios and Maria, acknowledge to Aurelia Maria, daughter of Allamon and Tapia, to have received three solidi of gold as marriage gift, which he will give back on demand.

Translation

1	† In the reign and consulship of our most divine master
2	and greatest benefactor Flavius Tiberius Minor Constantine,
3	the eternal Augustus, Emperor, in the second year,
4	on Phamenoth tenth, in the thirteenth indiction,
5	in Syene.
6	Aurelius Iakob, whose father is Kostantios and whose mother is
7	Maria, a boatman of Syene, (space) to Aurelia Mariam
8	daughter of Allamon?, her mother being Tapia, originating
9	from the same Syene, my spouse under God,
10	greetings. I, the aforesaid Iakob, acknowledge through
11	this my written security, that I have
12	and owe to you for the agreed upon
13	marriage gift of yours genuine gold,
14	three solidi, in the weight of Syene, i.e., gold, 3 solidi in the weight of Syene, which
15	aforementioned gold solidi, three in the weight

16	of Syene, I am ready to provide to you whenever
17	you may wish, without delay, free of interest, at my own
18	risk and by means of my assets,
19	which are both mortgaged to you and encumbered,
20	until repayment and satisfaction of the abovecited
21	debt, without any postponement or
22	sophistry. And for your security I have had made
23	(this) security, which is valid and warranted wherever brought forward,
24	with the signature of the one signing on my behalf.
25	And having been questioned, I have expressed acknowledgment and executed (the note) †.
26	(2nd hand) † I, Aurelius Iakob son of Kostantios, boatman
27	from Syene, the aforementioned, have had the security drawn up
28	for gold, three solidi in the weight of Syene,
29	and everything is satisfactory to me as aforementioned. I, Fl. Ioannes
30	son of Paeion, ordinarius of the regiment of Syene,
31	having been asked, wrote on his behalf since he
32	is not literate. (3rd hand) † I, Fl. Abraam son of Mousaios, bear witness †.
