Summary of Content Letter of the satrap Farandata ("Pherendates") to the Chnoum priests, with remarks concerning applicants for jobs as Chnoum priests who cannot be accredited by the Persian king Dareios I. The original text was written by Satibar, the Demotic letter by Peftjauawineith, and countersigned by Oaphres, the translator of the Aramaic original or just the copyist.

1Farandata, to whom Egypt is entrusted, speaks to all the wab priests of Khnum, master of Elephantine. Now, Farandata
2is the one who speaks: There are the wab priests whom the leader of the first phyle brought in front of (me) earlier, saying: ‚One may appoint them as lesonis priests!‘ Since one of the mentioned wab priests
3fled, [_] it was ordered to seek for him. There is (another) one amongst them, who was servant of another man. Such people cannot be appointed as lesonis! 1Lit.: "es geziemt sich nicht, sie zum Lesonis zu machen" (according to Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae).
4Now, the wab priest whom it is suitable to be appointed as lesonis, a great man, whom I will allow to officiate (as a lesonis), there being nothing which he
5has let fail (this is the one), who shall be choosen according to that what Dareios LPH Pharaoh has ordered. Such (a person) can be appointed
