1To Hartophnachthes, the chief of the sacred wrappings.
2Oh may Pre cause his lifetime to be long! It was brought to me,
3this letter. I have heard about your well-being. I have heard
4all that about which you have sent. I have caused
5Payris, son of Adeli-ye, to be brought.
6I have encouraged him greatly on your account.
7The other matters concerning which you have sent: I
8know them. Take care!
9Perform the worship until the god causes
10a favorable outcome to happen. Thus has complained
11Chnoum-..?.., son of Pasenis against
12Pamounis and Artais (and)
13Esyris (and) the other people who desire
14trouble with us. I have encountered
15much conflict
16since I came to Syene
17to the general for the desire
18to cause the people of Aphonte to succeed me.
19Those who disputed with me,
20(dispute) with the god as well. I am told
21through all people who are (in) Elephantine
22(and) Syene: ‘There is no woman in your
23house!’ If it is pleasing to
24you, you may take a man with you
vso1and consult the oracle of Isis concerning
vso2the woman who I should take home:
vso3The woman Tayris, daughter of Pachnoumis,
vso4or the woman Tareshy,
vso5daughter of Espmetis. And
vso6send me the answer for reinforcement!
vso7This was a very important matter,
vso8(otherwise) I would not have sent something like this
vso9to you. If it happens,
vso10that here is a something (which is desired): One may send
vso11to me concerning it. Written in the 3rd regnal year,
vso127th of Hathyr. Intentional space, 9 lines high
vso13To [_] Hartophnachthes.
