Summary of Content Contract between two sisters. Miptahia daughter of Gedmariah to her sister Eswere. The younger sister has an Egyptian name Eswere. The contract is a mutual quitclaim.

Comment on Gender This is one of only a few documents in which a woman is the initiating legal party. In all other sources, she is the receipiant of legal exchanges (property or husbands). This document also identifies her as belonging to a detachment. The only other woman so far identified as part of a detachment is a Caspian, Wbl (Kraeling 4).

1On the 15th of Pa[yni / ophi year … the king, ] then in Fort-Elephantine said Miptahiah daughter of Gemariah a lady

2of Fort-Elephantine belong to the detachment of(?) ????, to Isweri daughter of Gemariah, her sister[ … saying I]
3gave you silver, 6 shekels, that is six, by the stone(-weight)s of the king, silver zuz to 1 karsh. I gave you I, Miptahiah, gave (it) to you in love
4i n consideration of (the) support [(with) which you supported me and I with]drew from yo[u] from this day and forever. I shall not be able to bring against you suit [or] process in the name of
5[this silve]r [whi]ch [I] ga[ve you, which is written] in this document. And son of mine or daughter of mine, brother or sister of mine, near or far, shall not be able
6[ to bring against you suit or process. Whoeve shall bring (suit) against you in the name of this silver which] I gave you shall give you penaly of silver, 2 karsh, (and that silver is yours) [likewise. Said
7[Eswere] : [The ration of mine from the (store-)house of the king and your silver, you Mi]ptahiah, which was in your hand - you gave it to me, and my heart was satisfied
8 [herein from this day and forever and I withdrew from you from] this [sil]ver and (from) the ration which was mine from the (store-)house of the king. And I shall not be able
9[I, Eswere, to bring against you suit or process. Moreover, son] of mine or daughter of mine, partner-in-chattel or partner-in-land who is mi[ne shall not be able (to sue) in the na]me of this silver
10[which you gave me and this ration which was mine from the (store-)house of the king]. Whoever shall bring (suit) against you in the name of this silver and [the] ration [which] is written above
