Comments on Object The object is in Cairo and unaccessible. In the photographs of Sayce-Cowley, the second upper fragment should be moved to the left of the document, already in Cowley 15. The upper marks on this and the first fragment in the photo are not accounted for in TAD. Perhaps they are traces of the endorsement?

Summary of Content Eshor son of Djeho to Mahseiah son of Jedania. The Egyptian royal builder Eshor approached the father of the desired bride, the widow Mibtahiah. Granted hsi request in exchange for a ten-shekel mohar, he invested her in her new status. Several supralinera additions suggest last minute changes of the detailed enumeration of the items of her dowry. A guarantee of the bride's pecuniary rights during the marriage and in case of repudiation is given. Eshor could not alienate his property without Mibtahiah's consent.

1 On the 2[{5|6}th of] Tishri, [that is day] 6 of the month of Epeiph, [y]ear [16 of Artaxerx]es [the] king,
2said Esḥor son of Dje[ḥo], a builder of the king, to Mah[seiah, an A]ramean of Syene of the detachment of
3Varyazata, saying: I [c]ame to your house (and asked you) to give me your daughter Mipta(h)iah for wifehood.
4She is my wife and I am her husband from this day and forever. I gave you (as) mohar for
5your daughter Miptahiah: [silver], 5 shekels by the stone(-weight)s of [the] king. It came into you and your heart was satisfied
6herein. [Your daughter] Miptahiah brought in to me in (ERASURE: your) her hand: silver money 1 karsh ^2 shekels^ by the stone(-weight)s of the king,
7silver 2 q(uarters) to the 10. She brought into me in her hand: 1 new garment of wool, striped
8with dye doubly-well; it was (in) length 8 cubits by 5 (in width), worth (in) silver 2 karsh ^8^shekels
9by the stone(-weight)s of the king; 1 new SHAWL; it was (in) length 8 cubits by 5 (in width), worth
10(in) silver 8 shekels by the stone(-weight)s of the king; another garment of wool, FINELY-WOVEN; it was
11(in) length 6 cubits by 4 (in width), worth (in) silver 7 shekels; 1 mirror of bronze, worth
12(in) silver 1 shekel, 2 q(uarters); 1 bowl of bronze, worth (in) silver 1 shekel, 2 q(uarters); 2 cups of bronze,
13worth (in) silver 2 shekels; 1 jug of bronze, worth (in) silver 2 q(uarters). All the silver
14and the value of the goods (in) silver 6 karsh, 5 shekel, 20 hallurs by the stone(-weight)s of the
15king, silver 2 q(uarters) to the 10. It came into me and my heart was satisfied herein. 1 bed of papyrus-reed on which are
164 (15) INLAYS (16) of stone; 1 TRAY of slq; 2 ladles; 1 new BOX of palm-leaf; 5 handfuls of castor oil; 1 PAIR of sandals.
17Tomorrow or (the) n[ex]t day, should Esḥor die not
18having (17) a child, male or female, (18) from Mipta[h]iah his wife, it is Miptahiah (who) has right to the house
19of Esḥor and [hi]s goods and his property and all that he has on the face of the earth,
20all of it. Tomorrow or (the next) day, should Miptahiah die not
21having (20) a child, male or female, (21) from Esḥor her husband, it is Esḥor (who) shall inherit from her her goods
22and her property. Tomorrow o[r] (the) next day, should Miptahiah stand up in an assembly
23and say: “I hated Esḥor my husband,” silver of hatred is on her head. She shall PLACE UPON
24the balance-scale and weigh out to Esḥor silver, 6[+1] (= 7) shekels, 2 q(uarters), and all that she brought in
25in her hand she shall take out, from straw to string, and go away wherever she desires, without
26suit or without process. Tomorrow or (the) next day, should Esḥor stand up in an assembly
27and say: “I hated my [wif]e Miptahiah,” her mohar [will be] lost and all that she brought in
28in her hand she shall take out, from straw to string, on one day in one stroke, and go
29away wherever she desires, without suit or without process. And [who]ever shall stand up against Miptahiah
30to expel her from the house of Esḥor and his goods and his property, shall give her
31silver, 20 karsh, and do to her the law of this document. And I shall not be able to say:
32“I have another wife besides Mipta(h)iah and other children besides the children whom
33Miptahiah shall bear to me.” If I say: “I have other chi[ldren] and wife besides
34Miptahiah and her children,” I shall give to Miptahiah silver, 20 karsh by the stone(-weight)s of
35the king. And I shall not be able to RE[LEASE] my goods and my property from Miptahiah. And should I remove them
36from her (ERASURE: in accordance with [this] document but), I shall give to Miptahiah [silve]r, 20 karsh by the stone(-weight)s of the king.
