Text Content

Modern Title Deed of Mediation
Ancient Archives private archive | Patermouthis
Text Types
  • documentary | legal document
Summary of Content A deed of mediation. Unfortunately the text is very fragmentary. Women are mentioned and Patermoute, which suggests that the text might be part of the so-called Patermouthis-archive. Several women are mentioned, and in connection with Tapia the words ⲁⲓⲭⲙⲁⲗⲱⲧⲓⲍⲉ and ⲁⲓⲭⲙⲁⲗⲱⲧⲓⲁ are used - that refers to imprisonment of some sort, on many occasions for debt, in private documents. Later "three free women" are mentioned in the text.
Location of Composition Aswan / Syene Upper Egypt, 1st nome Egypt (Certainty: medium)
Multilingualism Monolingual Script = Language
Gender Man Woman
Comment on Gender "Imprisonment" stands in the text, in connection with a woman/women, then "three free women" are mentioned. In private documents we see that often the children or the wife of a debtor were "imprisoned" until a debt is cleared, not the debtor himself. May that be the case here?
Religion Christianity
