Summary of Content Laut OPAC BSB: Fragment. - Schuldner ist Aurelios Jakob, Sohn der Kostantios, Schiffer aus Syene, Gläubigerin seine Frau Aurelia Mariam. Der Schuldner verpfändet für seine jederzeit auf Verlangen der Gläubigerin rückzahlbare, aber zinsfreie Schuld sein ganzes Vermögen. Für den Schuldner subskribiert der Ordinarius Fl. Johannes. Drei Zeugen, darunter zwei Soldaten desselben Numerus. Die Urkunde ist ausgestellt unter dem Namen des M. Apa Diou. - Der Papyrus ist ein Fragment, die obere Hälfte mit 15 Zeilen wird im British Museum aufbewahrt, Inv.-Nr. 1799. Das ungeteilte Stück war eine Selis aus einer längeren Rolle in der üblichen Größe von 16 x 32 cm, die Fasern liefen auf der für den Text benutzten Seite parallel der Schmalseite der Rolle... Die Erhaltung lässt viel zu wünschen übrig, namentlich in der Mitte ist überall die Farbe abgesprungen, zahlreiche Löcher sind in den Falten entstanden. - Schrift: Die Schrift ist eine etwas plumpe, fette Minuskelkursive. Der Aussteller Markos Apa Diou scheint den Text nicht selbst geschrieben zu haben, doch stamm von seiner Hand die Aufschrift auf dem Verso. - Rekto 21 Zeilen, verso 1 Zeile. -

6Aurelius Iakob, whose father is Kostantios and whose mother is
7Maria, a boatman of Syene, (space) to Aurelia Mariam
8daughter of Allamon?, her mother being Tapia, originating
9from the same Syene, my spouse under God,
10greetings. I, the aforesaid Iakob, acknowledge through
11this my written security, that I have
12and owe to you for the agreed upon
13marriage gift of yours genuine gold,
14three solidi, in the weight of Syene, i.e., gold, 3 solidi in the weight of Syene, which
15aforementioned gold solidi, three in the weight
16of Syene, I am ready to provide to you whenever
17you may wish, without delay, free of interest, at my own
18risk and by means of my assets,
19which are both mortgaged to you and encumbered,
20until repayment and satisfaction of the abovecited
21debt, without any postponement or
22sophistry. And for your security I have had made
23(this) security, which is valid and warranted wherever brought forward,
