Summary of Content contract of sale of a slave girl. Didymos son of Iason sells at auction to Eirenaios a dark-complexioned (possibly Nubian?) slave-girl for whom a custom's receipt has been issued at Syene. Should a defect be discovered regarding the slave-girl, the seller promises the buyer legal assistance. Should he fail to provide such, he will refund the purchase price plus damages. (J.J. Farber)

1In the fifteenth year of Caesar, Pharmouthi ---, in Syene of the Thebaid. Thus has sold Didymos,
2son of Iason, ---, a little slave girl, dark skinned, --- by the name of ---ne, or by wichever other name
3she is called, auctioned in the aforementioned year 15 through auction-tax collectors Solon
4and ?, --- Cassius Aquila ---, for the price in Ptolemaic silver drachmae
5(amount) ?, which the seller Didymos has received through NN, son of Dionysios, soldier,
6--- from Eirenaios who has purchased through the --- auction-tax collectors
7--- not liable to be rejected except for a defect. But if some defect arises, the seller will initiate legal action
8--- or will repay the price which he has received, simple, and the damages and the costs,
9--- as the byer has requested. Didymos, son of Iason, the vendor, has acknowledged
10--- that he has delivered the receipt of the Sacred Syenian Gate, in which her personal description is laid down,
