31(hand 6?) † ὁμολογία γεναμένη Ἰωάννου Ἰακώβου ναύτου ἀπὸ Συήνης vac. ? πρὸς Πατερμούθιον καὶ Τκακὼ σύμβιον.
1☧ In the fourth year of the reign of our most divine and pious master Flavius Mauricius Tiberius,
2the eternal Augustus, Emperor, and greatest benefactor, Mesore 29,
3in the fourth indiction, in Syene.
4Flavius Ioannes, whose father (is) Iakobos, soldier of the regiment of Syene, originating from the same Syene,
5boatman by trade, and providing a signatory below signing on his behalf and
6witnesses bearing additional witness below to this warranted acknowledgment, to Flavius Patermuthios son of Menas,
7soldier of the regiment of Elephantine, originating in Syene, and to his wife, Aurelia Tkako, my own
8 sister of the same family, greeting. Since a few days ago, my father Iakobos came to the end of his life
9and the share of his mother Tlou's house devolved upon us so that we, might feed her
10together with the sons born of her until her death in the name of
11our late father Iakobos, at the present occasion, reminded by her
12about my share of the expense and cost and maintenance, I was not able
13to pay because of my continuing weakness, I have presented to you many entreaties
14to receive from me the share allotted to me of her house and her necessities,
15with all her daily maintenance to be supplied by you. Therefore, you sought to receive a security from me
16concerning this. Accordingly, I have come to this written acknowledgment through which I acknowledge that I have renounced
17in your favor the share of her house and household furniture in return for her said expense
18and cost. And I no longer have any claim against you concerning this because I have thus
19decided, and in accord with my entreaty you have arranged to do this. And I may not sue you nor
20shall I sue nor shall anyone else in my name now, or on any occasion, in any
21way, pretext or stratagem or sophistry. But if I should wish to sue you on account of this,
22I acknowledge that I must offer as fine gold, one ounce, to be exacted by judgment and authority from my
23assets. And for your security I have had drawn up the present acknowledgment of cession,
24which is valid and warranted and lawful wherever brought forward, with the signature of
25the one signing on my behalf. And having been questioned face to face, I have expressed acknowledgment and executed the document ☧.
26(2nd hand) † I, Ioannes son of Iakob, the aforementioned, have had this acknowledgment drawn up, and everything is satisfactory to me as aforementioned. †
27 I , Flavius Menas son of Abraamios, soldier of Syene, having been asked, wrote on his behalf since he is not literate. ††
28(3rd hand) ☧ I, Flavius Apa Dios son of Ioannes, of Syene, bear witness: † (4th hand) † I, Flavius Kolouthos son of Victor, soldier of Sye-
29ne, bear witness. † (5th hand) I, Flavius Mousaios son of Victor, soldier of the regiment of Syene bear witness. †
30(1st hand) † Written by me, Markos son of Apa Dios. †
31( 6th hand?) † Acknowledgment done by Ioannes son of Iakobos, boatman from Syene, (space) with Patermuthios and Tkako, his wife).
