Summary of Content The sisters Tsone and Tsere sell their one-third share in the (inherited?) house of their great-grandfather to the couple Patermouthis and Kako for 10 gold solidi. Their share consists of a three-room apartment, namely, a room on the 1st floor a living room on the 2nd floor, and a roof-terrace on the 4th floor, as well as a one-third interest in another little terrace and in all related appurtenances. Kako's father Iakobos already owns a bedroom on the 3rd floor. A male acts as guardian for each of the women — Isakos for his wife Tsone, and Ioannes alias Kattas of the monastery of Pampane for the minor Tsere.(J. J. Farber)

x+1and Ioannes, also called Kattas, dwelling in the monastery
x+2of Pampajne but at present found in Syene, answering for
x+3the will and good faith of the minor Tsia(?), sister of the aforesaid
x+4Tsone, who was born from the same parents, providing a signatory below
x+5signing on their behalf and witnesses bearing witness below
x+6to this warranted deed of sale, to Aurelius Patermuthios
x+7son of Menas, and to his most kindly wife, Aurelia Kako
x+8daughter of Iakobos, whose mother is Tapia, both originating from the
x+9same Syene, greetings. We, the aforesaid
x+10Tsone and Ioannes, acting in the name of Tsia also
x+11known as Tsere, on account of her youth, acknowledge by this, our
x+12written security of purchase, willingly and convinced
x+13without any guile or fear or force or deception or compulsion
x+14or deceit or any sort of malice or maliciousness
x+15or any defect or mean intention or
x+16any circumvention of the law, at the same time swearing by the holy
x+17and consubstantial Trinity and the victory and permanence of their serenities
x+18to whom trophies are dedicated, our masters the Flavians Tiberius and Aelia
x+19Anastasia, the eternal Augustans and Emperors,
x+20that we have sold to you today and transferred in accordance with the law
x+21of sale and for eternal possession and every most complete
x+22right of ownership the house-share belonging to us of the
x+23house called "the house of Patechnoumios," our great-grandfather.
x+24In this same share of the house there are: on the first floor,
x+25one room facing north in the gateway; and the
x+26living room above it facing north toward the gallery of the
x+27stair on the second floor; and the little terrace above
x+28the courtyard facing east toward the little courtyard;
x+29and our one-third share of the other little terrace
x+30above the bedroom of Iakobos son of Pasaraei, your father,
x+31Kako, and your father-in-law, Patermuthios; and the one-third share
x+32of all the related appurtenances, consisting of the vestibule,
x+33and gateway, and stair, and semi-oven, in accordance with the
x+34retention and ownership which have hitherto held it, the boundaries of the
x+35entire house of which we have sold you this same
x+36share of ours are these: on the south the house of Dios son of Kelol; on the north the public
x+37street into which the main door opens; on the west the house of Dios son of
x+38Takares, on the east the house of Pateroous; or whatever may be the boundaries
x+39everywhere on every side at the four corners and on the four sides just as
x+40we the vendors have asserted orally, the price
x+41mutually agreed upon and approved
x+42in inviolable concord being gold, ten solidi
x+43in the weight of Syene, i.e., gold, 10 solidi in the weight of Syene, which
x+44set full price we have here received in full from you,
x+45the purchasers, from your hand to our hand, in number and
x+46weight complete. And we will warrant to you the deed of sale
x+47with every warranty always and against anyone who intends to bring suit
x+48against you, at our risk and by means of our modest
x+49assets which are also encumbered for intimidating him
x+50and cleansing this, our present
x+51warranted deed of sale. We acknowledge that you hereafter
x+52control and own this same one - third share, and you may sell and r e-
x+53sell and dwell in and settle in and build and build
x+54upon; acquire and use in any way pleasing to you,
x+55unimpeded and without hindrance by anyone in
x+56our name or close kin to us in family, so that he will not be able
x+57on any occasion or time to challenge you or
x+58initiate arbitration against you because we have received and been paid
x+59in full the set price. But if — may it not happen! — we should be too weak concerning
x+60the intimidation of the claimant and cleansing of this
x+61our warranted deed of sale, we acknowledge that we recognize that we must provide
x+62double the set price. And moreover we recognize the
x+63compulsory strengthening of the present warranted deed of sale,
x+64the very one which we have had drawn up for you, as being valid and warranted and unbreakable and
x+65unshakable and lawful wherever brought forward,
x+66with the signature of the one signing on our behalf and of the
x+67witnesses below. And having been questioned about all that is written above,
x+68we have expressed acknowledgment that it is so and
x+69executed the deed. ☧ (2nd hand) ☧ We, Aurelia Tsone daughter of Rachel, whose father is
x+70Apa Dios, originating from Syene, together with her
x+71husband as guardian, Aurelius Isakios son of Kostantios, consenting
x+72and agreeing with her, and Ioannes, also called Kattas,
x+73dwelling in the monastery of Pampane but at present
x+74found in Syene and answering for the will and good faith of the minor
x+75Tsere, sister of the aforementioned Tsone, who was born from the same parents,
x+76have sold to you today the house-share belonging to us of the house
x+77that was the property of Patechnoumios our great-grandfather, and we have received the full
x+78price in gold, ten solidi, and everything written herein is satisfactory to us
x+79as aforementioned. I, Ioannes son of Abraamios, most humble priest of God's
x+80Holy Church of Syene, having been asked, wrote on their behalf in
x+81a public place, since they are not literate. ☧
x+82(3rd hand) ☧ I, Fl. Diops son of Alexandras, soldier of the regiment of Syene, bear witness. †
