Αὐγουστάλι(ος) 14 l. μαρτυρῶ	R 1 ☧ (In the year) after the consulship of the most illustrious Flavius Decius, on Phamenoth 1[.], in the eighth 2 indiction, in Syene //, 3 Aurelius Iakob, whose father is Paeis son of Roben, his mother being ---, a boatman 4 by trade, and his wife, Tsendia, whose father is Sourtos, her mother being Touote, 5 both residing in Syene, providing a signatory on their behalf and 6 witnesses signing below, to Flavius Iakobos son of Isakos, 7 his mother being Tlous, drummer of the regiment of Syene, and himself from Syene, greetings. 8 We acknowledge, with free and unalterable will and guileless resolve 9 and clear conscience, according to this single written security, that 10 we have sold to you today and transferred, from now, forever, and for 11 all time to come, the house belonging to us, in its entirety, from 12 foundation to air, lying in the same Syene in the southern 13 part of the fortress and in the Quarter of the Camp and of the house of Papnouthios 14 son of Mauros and of the public camel yard of the transport (service) from Philae. It came to us by 15 rightful purchase from Abraamios and Alammon sons of Paulos son of Ouranios 16 and to them by rightful inheritance from their deceased father Paulos 17 son of Ouranios and to him by rightful inheritance from his parents. In the entire 18 house there are: on the first floor two rooms, on the south a large one facing north 19 toward the adjacent gateway and another on the east facing west toward the main 20 gateway; and the (recess) below the stair, or tchrere; on the second floor two living rooms, 21 one facing north and another facing west toward the stairs; also with the 22 two unroofed living rooms above them on the third floor, up to the air; and 23 the stairs, from foundation to air. Its boundaries are: on the south a public road 24 beyond which is the house of Dios son of Tagaria; on the north a house now (belonging) to Dios son of Isakios, also (called) Posios; 25 on the east a house of Peteroous son of Martyrios and of his wife Terouterou; on the west 26 a public road into which its main door opens — positively corresponding 27 to the deed of sale made for us concerning this, which we have given to you for 28 your greater security — or whatever may be the boundaries everywhere on every side just as 29 we the vendors have asserted. And nothing has been left unsold by us 30 in the above-named house, the price mutually agreed upon 31 and approved being genuine gold, solidi, of the old currency, 32 eighteen, of full weight, i.e., gold, 18 solidi, which full price we, the sellers, have here 33 received in full from you, the purchaser, on the present 34 day, from your hand to our hand, in the same Syene, in number and weight 35 complete, in order that henceforth you, the purchaser of the above-named 36 house, may control and own it, in its entirety, from foundation to air, 37 and administer and manage and build and sell and give and bequeath it to your children 38 and descendants and employ what pertains to it in any way you choose, 39 without let or hindrance, and in order that we may not sue you — nor shall we sue — nor 40 may anyone else in our name, on any occasion, in any way, 41 on any pretext because, as we said before, we have received from you 42 the aforesaid price in full. The man who intends to sue you or contend with you 43 about the above-named house, in its entirety, from foundation to air, 44 or about part of it — him we the sellers shall drive away and cleanse the deed of sale 45 for you at our own expense. And we have given to you this deed of sale, 46 which is valid and warranted, over the signature of the one signing on our behalf. And having been questioned, 47 we have expressed acknowledgment and executed the deed. (2nd hand) ☧ We, the Aurelians Iakob son of Paeis son of Roben and his 48 wife Tsendia daughter of Sourtos, the aforementioned, have sold the aforementioned house in its entirety, 49 from foundation to air, and we have received from you the aforesaid 50 price of eighteen solidi and we warrant the deed of sale as aforementioned. 51 I, Fl. Photis son of Thalasios, augustalis of the legion of Syene, having been asked, wrote on their behalf 52 since they are not literate.
