Comments on Object | British Museum: "Papyrus (mounted in 6 frames) written with black ink with demotic legal text on recto (10 cols., each of 24-26 ll. except the last of 19 ll.) and verso (7 cols. of varying size). Thompson's MS Catalogue (referring to the whole papyrus): "recto: the proceedings of a native court of justice consisting of three priests with a Greek assessor in a civil suit arising out of the document no. 10575 supra. verso: copies of documents relating to the text of the recto. Date year 11 Pachons 21 of Ptolemy Philometor = BC. 170 June 23". Here shown are cols. 1-3 (pls. 1-3 of Thompson's edition), containing the records of the trial. Summary of Content | Petition (exteuxis) of the priests of Isis of Aswan intended to the strategos and archisomatophylax Numenios regarding the disposal of a vineyard. This petition was forwarded to Tutu, who prepared a review for the court of Ptolemais in Upper Egypt. The papyrus given here is only the notebook of Tutu for his review, while the original petition of the Aswan priests as well as the final letter from Tutu are not preserved. |
