Summary of Content Letter re: 6.5 Shekels, Wool, Oil, Beams, etc., with greetings to the Temple of Banit in Syene. Parcel of family letters discovered at Hermopolis

Comments on Text Of this parcel of seven family letters, six were addressed by three individuals to members of their family at Syene and Luxor. Four letters were sent to Syene, all of which send greetings to temples in Syene (the temples of Bethel and the Queen of Heaven, Banit, and Nabu). All six letters were written by the same scribe, probably from the same papyrus roll, one after another in the order arranged in TAD2.1-2.6.

1Greetings to the Temple of Banit in Syene. To my sister Tashi from your brother Makkibanit.
2I have blessed you by Ptaḥ that he may show me your face in peace. Nabusha is well
3here. Do not be concerned about him. I am not making him leave Memphis. Greetings to
4Psami and Yake. Greetings to Nanaiḥem. And now behold, an amount of money that
5was in my hands I gave as wp d r t to Banitsar son of Tabi sister of
6Nabusha - silver, 6 shekels and a zuz, silver zuz (to the ten). And now, send word
7to Tabi that she dispatch to you wool from part of the silver 1 shekel's worth.
8And now, if you be given a lamb and its wool, send word to me;
9and if you be given the wool owed by Makki, send word to me.
10And if you not be given anything, send word to me and I will complain against them here.
11And now, I bought olive oil and a tunic for Yake, and also
121 pretty vessel for you, and also perfumed oil for the Temple of Banit. But I have not yet found
13a man to dispatch them to you. And now, dispatch
145 handfuls of castor oil. And do give grain to Waḥpre; and let him buy beams
15and leave them in his house. Do not stand in his way; every beam which he finds
16he should buy. And if the shepherd Reia gives you wool, send word to me. Greetings to
17Tetosiri; take care of her. I have sent this letter to inquire about your welfare.
