Summary of Content Letter re: Skins, Beams, and Oil. Parcel of family letters discovered at Hermopolis

Comments on Text Of this parcel of seven family letters, six were addressed by three individuals to members of their family at Syene and Luxor. Four letters were sent to Syene, all of which send greetings to temples in Syene (the temples of Bethel and the Queen of Heaven, Banit, and Nabu). All six letters were written by the same scribe, probably from the same papyrus roll, one after another in the order arranged in TAD2.1-2.6.

1Greetings to the Temple of Banit in Syene. To my lord Psami, your servant Makkibanit. I have blessed you
2by Ptaḥ that he my show me your face in peace. Greetings to my mother Mama. Greetings to
3my brother Bitia and his household and his children. Greetings to Reia. Do not be concerned about Ḥarudj.
4As much as I am able, I am not leaving him alone. And now, I am providing for him.
5To my brother Waḥpre from your brother Makkibanit. I have sent you blessings of welfare and life. And now,
6if the srḥlsh has reached you, send word to me through Akbah son of Waḥpre.
7And now, whatever you desire, send word to me. Dispatch to me skins
8enough for 1 leather garment.

vso1And do take barley from Tashi and give it in exchange for beams
vso2and leave with Mama every beam which you find. I have bought striped cloth and
vso3scented oil to bring to you but have not found a man to bring them to you. And now,
vso4let them bring me 5 handfuls of castor oil. Do not be concerned about me; I am concerned about you.
