Comments on Text | Two marks were made on the rim of the jar perhaps before the clay hardened. Röllig reads these as incised letters נל, and suggests it is an abbreviation for a personal (Phoenician) name. To me they look like gouges made in the pot perhaps as part of its sealed lid (cf. Lozachmeur “ḤTM”) or by the process of opening the seal. |
