Summary of Content | It is difficult to determine from the picture if the object is written cc, but this is likely. If the ostracon is complete, as Röllig believes, then this is truly a "note". |
Comments on Text | מל<כ><<ח>>א : This emendation is a guess based on context. Perhaps the writer was copying from an oral source, in which case ḥ may have been misheard as ḵ. Perhaps even the reading "salt" was intended, since it was sold from the boats. פטחנמ ? looks like פטחנס . Reading מ follows Röllig which seems more reasonable, although it does not resemble the stroke pattern? |
